“For f*** sake” - Paul Scholes tears into Manchester United midfielders in Instagram rant

Paul Scholes blasted Manchester United’s midfielders following their performance in Sunday’s defeat to Brighton.

Erik ten Hag’s reign as manager got off to the worst possible start as United were beaten in their opening game of the new Premier League season at Old Trafford. The visitors were fully deserving of their victory as Pascal Gross’ first-half brace earned them a 2-1 victory.

Having gone into the new season with cautious optimism following some of their pre-season performances, United were almost instantly brought back down to earth in their first competitive outing of the campaign. And many of the same problems that plagued the Reds during their disastrous 2021/22 season were on show yet again.

United’s midfielders in particular came in for heavy criticism. Scholes and former captain Roy Keane were particularly unimpressed by the performances of Scott McTominay and Fred, with the latter being hauled off just minutes into the second half.

And Scholes continued his onslaught as he took to Instagram on Monday following the defeat. The former midfielder posted a message on his story as he took another dig at United’s current crop of players.

“Thoughts for the week MDF (midfielders) it’s all about body shape when receiving the ball, too many times facing their own goal and can only play one way… get on the ‘half turn’ for f*** sake and bring your forward more talented players into the game,” Scholes posted.

Scholes added “have a great week everyone” before signing off the message with “Red Army”.
