Sydney Swans full forward Lance Franklin returned to the SCG today to collect the ball with which he kicked his now-famous 1,000th career goal.

AFL officials had appealed for a fan who was seen catching the ball and disappearing into the crowd to hand the Sherrin back.

Today Franklin thanked the fan for coming to the SCG and returning the ball.

«I absolutely loved it,» Franklin said of the milestone goal, which saw him mobbed by thousands of supporters on the pitch on Friday night.

«The third quarter kicking the third goal, you could feel the crowd coming down early in the fourth.

»I was lucky enough that Horse [Sydney coach John Longmire] put me on with a few minutes to go.

«I was able to get the goal.»
