Folkestone Invicta out to avoid a repeat as they visit Carshalton Athletic in Isthmian Premier

Folkestone will look to avoid a repeat showing when they visit Carshalton this weekend.

Invicta, unbeaten this season, are at Colston Avenue on Saturday as they try to continue their solid start to the Isthmian Premier campaign.

Last season, however, Folkestone headed into November unbeaten - only to suffer a 5-0 defeat at the hands of the Robins. Manager Peter Adeniyi has since been replaced by former Tonbridge boss Steve McKimm.

Invicta manager Neil Cugley said: “A lot has changed since then but, last year, that was our first defeat and it was a very poor defeat. We got well beaten.

“We want to make sure that does not happen on Saturday.

“I prefer grass to 3G pitches but, at the moment, they’re on 3G and that’s a good thing because you know what you are getting.”

Guyana international Kadell Daniel has made an encouraging start at Folkestone and scored his third goal of the season in Saturday’s 3-1 FA Cup win over North Greenford.

Cugley said: “I actually thought he had a quiet game! But then, he whipped in a free-kick, and we scored, and he scored himself.

“We aim to get 30 goals from him this year. He’s an exciting player.

“He’s another player, once the ground is a bit softer, who will get better.”

Striker Ibrahim Olutade, who played under McKimm at Tonbridge last term, also took his tally to three after coming off the bench to net against North Greenford.

“We cannot ask for more,” said Cugley. “He’s pushing for a start and that’s what you want.

“He had a poor pre-season but he has come good now. He’s a quiet lad, but he’s got a smile on his face, so I’m pleased for him.

“It gives us four good forwards. We will look on Saturday to see if we start with him.”
