Flowers left for Baby A as community heartbroken by tragic discovery

Devastated locals have left flowers for Baby A after being rocked by the infant's heartbreaking discovery. A dog walker found the remains at Ashtons Field in Little Hulton, Salford, at around 12.30pm today (November 20).

Emergency services have been working at the scene ever since. Greater Manchester Police is yet to determine the identity of the 'young baby' or how long they had been left at Ashtons Field. The infant has since been named Baby A by GMP.

A Home Office post mortem is taking place, which should give detectives more clues in the coming days. On Cleggs Lane outside the cordon, Little Hulton residents have spoken of their devastation at the discovery.

Friends Raymond Irving and Tony Griffiths came to the scene to place flowers by the cordon. Tony said: “It’s terrible, shocking. I can’t believe somebody has done this.”

Tributes to Baby A have poured in on the Manchester Evening News' Facebook page this evening, with dozens of readers paying their respects. Barbara Brooks wrote: "So sad fly high with the angels."

Sandra Lloyd-Johnson commented: "RIP Little Angel." Linda Owen said: "R.i.p. little baby. So sad... heart breaking xx"

Kelly Caffery wrote: "Absolutely heartbreaking. Rest easy little one." Karen Griffin added: "This is so sad... rip little one."

At a press conference earlier this evening, Chief Superintendent Neil Blackwood said: "We know that this news will devastate our communities, and while we do not have all the answers to these questions yet, I want to reassure residents that we will do all we can to find out what has happened here. The most important thing for us right now is to find answers for this
