Fleeing driver abandons car - and an adorable French bulldog - after police chase

A driver abandoned their car - and a pet dog - after traffic cops tried to stop the vehicle and it drove away.

The drama happened in Prestwich when the driver of the Vauxhall Astra spotted an unmarked police patrol - the vehicle 'made off' but when officers eventually found the abandoned car, they found the driver wasn't around but a French bulldog was.

Now officers are trying to find the driver and the owner of the pet pooch although it's not clear if they are one and the same. Greater Manchester Police tweeted about the incident from its GMP Traffic account on Saturday afternoon, including pictures of the car and the dog.

The post said: "This Vauxhall Astra made off on seeing our unmarked RPU patrol . The vehicle was abandoned around the corner in Prestwich as well as this little French bulldog.

"If this dog is yours, please get in touch - enquiries are ongoing to identify driver."
