Five things we learned from Preston North End's pre-season camp in Spain

Preston North End are back from their pre-season training camp in Spain and preparing for Saturday's friendly at Accrington Stanley.

It'll be the Lilywhites' fourth run out of the summer, after a week of hard work in the Alicante sunshine. North End's players were put through their paces in Campoamor and lost narrowly to La Liga side Getafe CF, when the two sides met on Tuesday morning.

We spent Sunday to Wednesday in Spain, which entailed speaking to manager Ryan Lowe, a couple of North End players and of course covering the game.

Here are five things we spotted over the course of the trip.

Robbie Brady has been brought in to provide competition down the left but PNE are yet to bolster their options on the opposite side of the pitch. Brad Potts continues to be first-choice there and the number 44 put in a shift as always in the game, but there is more depth needed.

Matthew Olosunde earned a spot on the plane due to his positive attitude, despite being transfer listed. The American deserves full credit for the way he has gone about things this summer, but that does not mean he is suddenly ready to play. Olosunde struggled in the match and was a touch off it in some of the training seen too. Ryan Lowe wants energy, durability, speed, and quality on the ball in his wide men. There is still time to get that calibre of player through the door.

It was spoken about upon his arrival and the goalkeeper made a terrific first impression when he faced the media, but the Spain camp only furthered the view that PNE have signed a top character.
