FIVE people arrested during The Courteeners major Heaton Park gig

Five people were arrested in and around The Courteeners' major Heaton Park concert on Friday, June 9.

Greater Manchester Police arrested five people at the gig and 'nearby' for a slew of offences, the force confirmed. The show marked the 15th anniversary of the band's acclaimed album, St Jude, and thousands were in attendance for the Manchester trio's homecoming gig.

Police officers were called in to oversee the event. Officers have reported a total of three arrests at the gig itself, and two further arrests nearby.

Over the course of the concert, two people were arrested on suspicion of being drunk and disorderly, and one on suspicion of possession with intent to supply. Two further arrests by officers – one on suspicion of driving under the influence and one under suspicion of possession with intent to supply – occurred nearby.

GMP also assisted in everything from minor injuries to supporting traffic management in the aftermath of the event, according to the force. The gig kicked off a weekend of activity at Heaton Park, with Parklife festival starting the next morning and continuing into today (June 11).

Superintendent Phil Spurgeon, from GMP’s City of Manchester District, said: “It was a great night with a fantastic atmosphere and it was amazing to see people coming together from all around to enjoy the gig.

“From a policing and security perspective, we are very happy with how the night played out. The overwhelming majority of attendees enjoyed themselves responsibly and had a great time.

"While we made a handful of arrests, those people were in the tiny minority and did not detract from the night. This was the opening act to a busy
