Five midfielders Manchester United could look at as further additions after signing Mason Mount

Manchester United should soon make Mason Mount their first signing of the summer.

It's been a long time coming but Erik ten Hag has all but got his top midfield target in the bag. United had been left frustrated after seeing three bids for Mount rejected but eventually managed to break Chelsea's resolve by compromising on a guaranteed £55million fee with a possible £5million in add-ons.

Mount has agreed a five-year contract with United, completed his medical on Monday and was back at Carrington on Tuesday for his unveiling photoshoot. But with one midfielder signed, United are considering adding another.

Mount's arrival has opened the door for 30-year-old Fred to depart, with Fulham interested in the Brazilian who has a year remaining on his deal. United will now switch their attentions to a goalkeeper and striker but are keeping an eye on midfield targets with Scott McTominay's future also uncertain.

The academy graduate has been the subject of interest from Newcastle and West Ham this summer, although any move would be dependent on United getting an offer too good to refuse and whether McTominay wants to move on. As a result of the uncertainty around McTominay's future, United are monitoring defensive midfielders in case they need to make a move at any point in the window.
