First images of revamped Great Northern Warehouse revealed as bosses plan huge redevelopment

This is how a redeveloped Great Northern Warehouse could look in the future — as bosses at the Deansgate complex unveil bold plans to transform the area.

Plans for a revamped site have been in the works for several years now, co-owners Trilogy and Peterson, say. If they go ahead as dreamed up in these pictures, then there will be an extensive renovation of the Grade-II listed warehouse, and the construction of an ‘oasis’ of greenery right in the heart of Manchester city centre.

The renovation of the building will also include opening up 130,000 sq ft of office space in its upper floors, the removal of the 1990s ‘Leisure Box’ extension and cinema while retaining much of the existing multi storey car park, and building 750 apartments across two taller buildings and a lower scale podium building.

Trilogy bought the complex in 2015, and has introduced several community-based initiatives, including the ‘Village Hall’, ‘Book Nook’, a play area for children, plus a family centre called Little Northern which is open to the public to keep warm this winter. Trilogy Founder and CEO, Robert Wolstenholme, said these plans continue to put ‘community’ at the forefront of the development.

He said: "I'm hugely proud of our local team who have worked so hard to get us to the point where we are able to talk to the public about the potential for this much-loved site in Central Manchester.

“Our proposals put community, sustainability and local business at the heart of plans for The Great Northern. We look forward to progressing the scheme to achieve the best outcome for the city."

The plans also include walking and cycling routes
