First Division wrap: Cork City hit Bray for six, as Treaty United and Waterford both net five each on the road

The SSE Airtricity League First Division opening night proved to be a veritable goal-fest with 19 goals scored across the three games.

The trio of fixtures all ended in away wins for Waterford, Cork City and Treaty United who plundered goals galore in their various assignments.

Cork City are top of the division on goal difference at this very early juncture after a 6-0 thrashing of Bray Wanderers at the Carlisle Grounds, with Dylan McGlade helping himself to a hat-trick, including the opener which left Colin Healy's side one up at the break.

Barry Coffey's brace then fired Cork into a 3-0 lead by the hour mark, before McGlade scored two more and Ruairi Keating rounded off the scoring in the 76th minute.

Waterford, who were relegated from the Premier Division after a play-off defeat to UCD at the end of last season, got their 2022 campaign off to a flyer with a 5-2 win at Athlone Town.

Cian Kavanagh and Phoenix Patterson had the Blues 2-0 up by the 16th minute. Junior Quitirna's double either side of half-time sent Waterford 4-0 clear before Stephen Kenny pulled one back for the hosts.

Louis Britton restored the visitors' four-goal advantage although Glen M,cAuley did score a late consolation for Athlone three minutes from time.

Treaty United made the promotion play-offs last season and also got off to a winning start in dominant fashion with a 5-1 win over Wexford FC.

Callum Mcnamara and Conor Melody put the visitors two up but Conor Davis' 41st minute goal for Wexford halved the lead at the break.

Treaty took control in the second half as Enda Curran's brace and Joe Gorman saw the Limerick side run out comfortable winners.
