First Division round-up: Galway United hammer Bray Wanderers to top table

Galway United have a two-point lead at the top of the SSE Airtricity League First Division table after inflicting a 5-1 defeat on Bray Wanderers at the Carlisle Grounds.

Stephen Walsh opened the scoring for the visitors in the first minute, making no mistake with a glancing header before Wilson Waweru doubled Galway's advantage in the 23rd minute.

Darragh Lynch responded for Bray 18 minutes after the restart, but Max Hemmings' fortuitous third goal from a cross for Galway ended the game as a contest.

Walsh complete his brace in the 80th minute and David Hurley then converted an 83rd minute spot-kick in a ruthless display by John Caulfield's men.

Two goals in three first-half minutes from Dean George and Jack Lynch guided Treaty United to a home win over Athlone Town.

Thomas Oluwa struck back for Athlone in the 21st minute, but that was the end of the goalscoring action in a 2-1 win for Treaty.

Cobh Ramblers and Wexford FC couldn't be split at the break in their encounter at St Colman's Park, but a second-half capitulation from the home team saw Wexford run out convincing winners.

Conor Davis, Jack Doherty and Daniel Corcoran did the damaged for the visitors, who are up to sixth in the table.
