First Division round-up: Galway and Waterford win big

SSE Airtricity League First Division leaders Galway United ran out 4-1 winners over Bray Wanderers at the Carlisle Grounds, but two stoppage-time goals added a gloss that their performance scarcely deserved.

Stephen Walsh struck twice after the 90 minutes had elapsed to complete a hat-trick after also scoring in the 33rd minute.

Harry Groome got the home side back on level terms just six minutes after Walsh's opener as he dribbled into the box before curling an effort just beyond Brendan Clarke.

David Hurley restored Galway's lead from the spot in the 71st minute after Francely Lomboto was fouled in the box, but it was only in injury time that the lead leaders assured themselves of securing all three points

Finn Harps endured an unwanted bout of deja vu when Waterford FC came to town, with Keith Long's charges defeating them a fourth time this season.

The 4-0 scoreline was a repeat of the results the Blues had recorded in Ballybofey earlier in the campaign.

Darragh Power opened the scoring in the 24th minute, with Cameron Cresswell scoring six minutes after the restart.

Dean McMenamy then completed a quickfire brace in the 55th and 67th minutes, with Noe Baba needlessly getting himself dismissed in the 60th minute for a reckless challenge on Conner Parsons on the halfway line.

Despite the emphatic win, Waterford seem destined for the play-offs, with Galway needing just four points from their last six matches to be crowned champions.

Elsewhere in the second tier, goals from Danny Furlong and Kian Corbally earned Wexford a 2-1 come-from-behind win over hosts Treaty United, while Kerry and Longford Town shared the spoils after a drab 0-0 draw at Mounthawk Park.
