Fire crews evacuate Cardiff shopping centre after car blaze
A huge plume of smoke was seen above a Cardiff city centre shopping centre after a vehicle caught fire on a rooftop car park. Pictures from the car park at the top of Cardiff's Capitol Centre show fire crews dealing with the blaze.
The building was evacuated and shoppers reported hearing "loud bangs" and thick smoke could be seen pouring from the top of the shopping centre. People using the gym in the centre were led outside to the safety of Queen Street shortly before midday.
A spokeswoman for South Wales Fire and Rescue said they were called to reports of a vehicle fire at 11.39am on Monday.
Crews from Roath and Ely went to the scene and extinguished the fire using specialist equipment.
