Finnish skier Remi Lindholm suffers ‘frozen penis’ while competing at Winter Olympics

Finnish cross-country skier Remi Lindholm has suffered from an unusual injury while competing in the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics.

The 24-year-old revealed he had suffered from a frozen penis during his event, which was held in extremely cold conditions at Zhangjiakou, China on Sunday.

“You can guess what was frozen when I crossed the finish line,” Lindholm told Finnish outlet Iltalehti.

“It was quite unbearable pain.”

Lindholm finished 28th in the race and took quick action to try to warm up his chilly appendage.

“I stuffed a heating pad on it. It helped. It took maybe 15 minutes,” he explained.

“When the body parts started to warm up after the finish, the pain was unbearable.”

But the treatment may have come too late.

Asked if he thought he will be able to reproduce in the future, he said: “No, I don’t.”

The men’s cross country event was conducted under such brutal conditions that the race was shortened to 30km instead of 50km to protect the competitors, who wore a thin layer.

Strong wind and temperatures of around -16C led to the race starting an hour later than scheduled.

Despite the problem inside his ski suit, Lindholm still managed to place in the middle of the field in the 60-skier event.

“It was one of the worst competitions I’ve been in. It was just about battling through,” he said.

Lindholm recovered to take part in Sunday night’s closing ceremony at Beijing’s national stadium.
