Final Fantasy XIV: MMORPG Huge Factor in Square Enix’s Success

Square Enix has revealed that Final Fantasy XIV has been a huge reason for their financial success recently. 

The release of their quarterly report showed that 22% of their overall earnings have come from sales of the game.

Final Fantasy’s Expansion Shadowbringers was a huge success seeing a number of people flocking over to FFXIV from several different MMO’s; one of which was World of Warcraft (WoW) with one of its biggest and most followed streamers Asmongold coming to FFXIV.

With Asmongold coming to Final Fantasy, it saw a huge amount of his fanbase trying out the game which meant that a large number of subscriptions were being bought. This in turn made the servers for the game struggle, as they couldn’t handle the influx of people.

It was recently reported that in Square Enix third-quarter financial results increased by 22% to 50.1 Billion Yen.

The company cited that strong sales of the latest expansion packages are the main reason, in addition to this, an increase of players subscribing to the game, sales of in-game characters and in-house content being sold.

Sales for FFXIV were 211,622 million Yen, which was a 4% increase from the previous year. Operating income was also 49,425 million yen, which was an increase of 17.1% from the previous year.

This means that thanks to Shadowbringers and the sales of Endwalker, the game has been able to continue to grow into a global phenomenon.
