Fikayo Tomori: Eni Aluko blames AC Milan star’s red card on ‘bad tactics’

Fikayo Tomori was controversially sent off for AC Milan against Chelsea in the Champions League, but former Blues forward Eni Aluko believes Milan manager Stefano Piolo was to blame.

Tomori, who signed for Milan from Chelsea last year, received a straight red card for pulling back Mason Mount in the area –– which Jorginho then converted.

After that, Graham Potter’s side were in cruise control and doubled their lead before half-time through Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

In the end, Chelsea ran out comfortable 2-0 winners, but Milan boss Piolo stressed that the red card completely changed the game.

“The penalty and red card changed everything,” he said. “Chelsea didn’t need to play with a numerical superiority.”

Referee Daniel Siebert had a difficult decision on his hands when Mount was sent tumbling to the floor by Tomori early in the first half.

The English centre-back did not appear to have made much contact with Mount, but it was enough for Siebert to deem that Tomori had not attempted to play the ball, which led to him issuing a red card.

While the decision was long debated by Milan’s players, VAR ruled that it was not a clear and obvious error and informed Siebert to stick with his original assessment.
