Kaduna-based Fifth Chukker Polo Club have won the 2022 FirstBank-sponsored Emir of Zazzau African Patrons Cup. Playing like a team infused with winning bug, Fifth Chukker overcame Malcomines to win the FirstBank sponsored Cup in the final game decided at the highbrow Fifth Chukker Polo and Country Resort, Kaduna.

To win the highly explosive six-Chukker encounter, Fifth Chukker polo scored 10 goals against Malcomines’ eight goals. Led by Manuel Crespo, a six-goal polo player and featuring Fecundo Ketemer, another six-goaler, home-based Abdulrahaman Mohammed +3 and one of Ghana’s greatest polo players, Kwame Isa (+3), the team dominated the final.

Though it looked like a one-sided affair, Malcomines were no pushovers, as they fought back in the third Chukker, putting the seven-time winners on the edge.

Urged on by their teeming supporters, Murtala Laushi +1 team leader, highly experienced Hamisu Buba +4, Argentine Satiago Marambio +6 and Alejo Aramburu +6, Malcomines fought strongly, keeping polo fans, including the Emir of Zazzau, Ambassador Nuhu Bamali and other top government officials, on the edge of their seat throughout the six-chukker game.

In the other match also decided at the weekend, FirstBank lost to Coronation by eight goals to 10 to win the Late Gen. Hassan Cup.
