FIFA 23: How to lie down behind the wall

There is a new feature in FIFA 23 where you can now lie down behind the wall when defending a free-kick – here’s how to perform this and everything else you need to know.

The way free-kicks have been adapted in modern-day football has changed dramatically over the years. Due to lighter balls and more in-depth set-piece coaching, free-kicks can now be scored in various ways. One of these ways that is seen more commonly nowadays, is striking the ball under the wall as they jump. Lionel Messi during his time at FC Barcelona was a master of this technique and scored many a free-kick using it.

So with football adapting, naturally FIFA has too. In FIFA 23, it’s an entirely revamped free-kick system that has been designed where you now have more control than ever when striking the ball from a dead ball situation.

One of the new techniques you can do is striking the ball under the wall, so naturally – EA need to balance it out and provide a defence mechanism for this, which is why they’ve introduced the ability to lie down behind the wall during a free-kick.

Since trying to shoot underneath the wall is a more viable option in FIFA 23, EA are giving players a new tool to defend against these kinds of Free Kicks. When defending, players now can lie down behind the wall.
