FIA president reveals mood between Mercedes & Red Bull at F1 meeting

FIA president Mohammed Ben Sulayem has said that there was harmony between Christian Horner and Toto Wolff during the Formula 1 commission meeting on Monday afternoon.

The FIA, Formula 1 and all ten teams met in London on Monday afternoon for the F1 commission, where things like new Sprint guidelines were set out.

Many, though, were waiting for an update from the FIA over Michael Masi’s position and the Race Director role in general, though no official news was given at the time.

Indeed, we’re instead having to wait a little longer as to what is going to happen with Masi and whether he stays in the job after the Abu Dhabi fiasco, with Red Bull and Mercedes obviously heavily involved in the incident in what was a massive climax to their season-long fight for both championships.

Certainly, over the course of 2021 both sides exchanged a few barbs with Horner and Wolff leading the way but, by the sounds of things, the conversation was a little more cordial:

“They were in line,” said Ben Sulayem. “I think it’s because of Valentine’s Day.

“They were close to each other and they were in a good mood, so that was good. I expected more entertainment but it was good to see the harmony between them.”
