Ferguson signs new long-term deal with Brighton

Republic of Ireland Under-21 international Evan Ferguson has celebrated his 18th birthday by signing a new three-and-a-half year deal with Brighton and Hove Albion.

Ferguson, who made his senior debut for the Premier League outfit earlier this year, has enjoyed a impressive rise at the club since him move from Bohemians last year, coming through the underage ranks and into the senior team.

The Dubliner broke through under previous manager Graham Potter, but has already impressed the club's new head coach Roberto De Zerbi, who said: "I am very happy to see Evan commit his future to Brighton.

"I have only worked with him for a few weeks but is clear to see his potential. I am really looking forward to working with him and helping him progress."

Brighton's technical director David Weir added: "Evan is a great example of the recruitment and academy process we have here at the club and it is credit to those who have already played such an important part in his career."

Ferguson was part of the Ireland Under-21 squad which narrowly missed out on a place at the European Under-21 Championship finals after they were beaten on penalties by Israel.
