Faversham Town manager Steve Watt heaps praise on club physios Gary Metcalfe and Rory Sedge as club host Merstham in already 26th match of the season this weekend
Manager Steve Watt has heaped praise on Faversham Town’s medical department.
The Lilywhites are firmly in the Isthmian South East title race and battled to a 1-0 victory at Hastings last weekend.
Having also equalled the club’s best-ever FA Trophy run, Town’s home match against surprise strugglers Merstham will be a 26th in all competitions this Saturday.
They have had their share of injury issues amid a tough schedule - losing winger Kieron Campbell for the season - but Watt believes the situation could be much worse if it wasn’t for the work of Gary Metcalfe and Rory Sedge.
Sedge has been with Watt and assistant manager Frannie Collin since the latter took caretaker charge last term while Metcalfe, who has a long-standing association with the Salters Lane side, alongside other commitments, has also been around this season.
“Gary is one of the best physios I’ve ever worked with, particularly in the non-league scene,” said Watt.
“We’ve got Rory Sedge, who is working with us where Gary sometimes has other commitments. They’ve been absolutely first class.
“If you have good physios who know what they’re doing and have the right detail, they’re worth a lot of points.
“They have played their part. I know we have had injuries but, without their effort, care and attention to detail, I think we would have had a lot more.
“I’m really pleased with how the whole team, not just the squad, has come together. From the outside, you can see the side going out there and getting the points that are needed.
“But these guys behind the scenes have been absolutely fantastic. There’s no point, having the squad we have if you don’t look after it.
“They’ve both been absolutely brilliant.”
Indeed, the boss thinks the duo constitute the best
