Faversham fighter Alex Branson-Cole vowing not to rest on his laurels after win against CJ Wood in Purfleet, Essex
Alex Branson-Cole is vowing not to rest on his laurels after winning his second professional fight.
Faversham’s Branson-Cole, 29, beat CJ Wood at the Circus Tavern in Purfleet, Essex, on Saturday.
But the middleweight, who works as a roofer, doesn’t want to stop there.
“Hopefully I can get out in September,” he said. “I want to be busy.
"A lot of these fighters want two fights a year, but I don’t want that.
“I want to be busy. Hopefully I can get out in September and showcase my skills more regularly.
“I want to start pushing forward. This was my second pro fight and it was a six-rounder.
“Not many people do a six-rounder in their second fight but that’s what I wanted to do. I wanted a six-rounder in my first fight but it’s difficult to find the right opponent and get that organised.
“My next fight, I want to be an eight or 10-rounder.”
Weekend opponent Wood was a more experienced professional fighter but proved to be no match for the boxer who trains at Creekside Boxing Club.
“It was good. It was a good bout and a good win for me,” he reflected.
“My trainer [Ian Fleckney] had seen him box before and my trainer studied him really well. He set a game-plan and we executed it.
“Everything my trainer told me he was going to do - from round one until round six - he did. I believe what my trainer says, so I kind of knew what was going to happen in a way.
“From round one to round six, we just stuck to the game-plan and got the win.
"The first two rounds were a bit slow, just working the jab. The third round, I started to go down to the body.
“Then fourth, fifth and sixth round, we just picked up the pace, chucking a lot of combinations in.”
Branson-Cole was also backed by dozens of fans who headed to Essex to get behind him.
