Fatima Whitbread: Olympian still has cockroach from iconic I'm a Celeb scene

It’s highly likely that Fatima Whitbread’s famous cockroach incident is on every I’m a Celebrity… fan’s ‘most memorable moments’ list.

After 11 years, the scene is still talked about. The Olympian herself even loves to reflect back on the nightmarish moment.

So much so, that Whitbread has actually kept the very cockroach that crawled up her nose during the 2011 instalment of the show.

The 61-year-old appeared on a recent episode of This Morning to discuss her time on Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins.

Whitbread pushed herself to the limit to take on the gruelling challenge, which she admitted was to prove if she could compete with the contestants younger than her.

Of course, the ex-javelin thrower was a powerhouse, and even battled through three cracked ribs to remain on the show.

Before the end of the interview, Whitbread showed off the I’m a Celeb cockroach that made headlines more than a decade ago.

“This is the cockroach! It was stuck there [in my nose] for 40 minutes,” she said, showing the critter encased in an amber resin.

Whitbread provided one of the most iconic moments on British television back in 2011, when a bushtucker trial went horribly wrong.

The former World and European champion took on one of the show’s most well-known challenges — enduring a time trial while wearing a plastic helmet full of bugs.

During the trial, more than 7,500 cockroaches were tipped into her helmet and one made its way up her nostril, where it was lodged for a long period of time.

Whitbread, calm and collected as ever, simply stuck with the process until she was able to flush out the roach with water and a lot of sniffing.
