Fascinating footage of Mike Tyson at 14 shows even then he was living and breathing boxing

There are few bigger names in the world of boxing than Mike Tyson.

The American heavyweight took the boxing world by storm as he became the youngest heavyweight champion in the history of the sport.

Mike’s brand of brutal, merciless power saw him blow through the heavyweight on his way to the top, landing some of the biggest knockouts you could ever hope to see.

He was the king of the mind game as well, often winning a fight long before he ever stepped between the ropes through a regime of relentless psychological warfare.

It, could however, have been so different for the man who would go on to become known as ‘The Baddest Man on the Planet’.

Tyson endured a troubled childhood and was only heading in one direction as he grew in years. That was, of course, until an intervention from Cus D’Amato.

The legendary trainer saw something in Tyson when he was only 12 years old, taking him under his wing and showing him the ins and outs of the sweet science.

In Tyson, however, he found a very willing student who suddenly had all the resources he could ever need to make a name for himself in boxing.

Footage of D’Amato counselling an emotional Mike before a fight early in his career proved just how much of a father-figure he became for the future world champion.

Now, further fascinating footage has been doing the rounds online of a 14-year-old Tyson impressing D’Amato with his boxing knowledge, while having dinner around the family table.

In the footage, D’Amato is seen struggling to recall the names of certain historic boxers which is when Tyson stepped in.

Showing his encyclopaedic knowledge of the sport, Tyson quickly rattled off the names that his trainer was looking for.
