Fantilli leads Canada to world hockey gold-medal game with 1st goal of tourney
Forward Adam Fantilli, a projected top-five pick in next month's NHL draft, scored at 8:56 of the third period to lift Canada to a 4-2 semifinal victory over host Latvia at the men's world hockey championship on Saturday.
Teammate Scott Laughton added an empty-net goal with 43 seconds left in regulation.
Samuel Blais and Jack Quinn also scored for Canada, the reigning silver medallists, while Sam Montembeault turned aside 20 of 22 shots.
The Canadians will play the winner of the Germany-U.S. semifinal game in Sunday's final.
