We rarely discuss field goal kickers in the ESPN Fantasy Football section because, well, they are kickers, after all. Most fantasy managers just don't think about kickers until they go on their bye weeks and then, they just add someone else, perhaps whomever ESPN Fantasy projects for the most points. In fact, many fantasy players might not even know who their kicker is, for their fantasy team or perhaps even for the real NFL team they root for. Yes, kickers are people too, but in fantasy football they're not really important people.

Ask 100 fantasy football managers to name a kicker, and chances are Baltimore Ravens star Justin Tucker will be the first one mentioned. Tucker is, after all, the most accurate and highest-paid kicker in league history, a legend who routinely succeeds on 60-yard blasts and wins football games, and not surprisingly, he was the first kicker selected in most ESPN average live drafts, often well before the final round, which is our recommended course of strategy. People draft Tucker and forget about it until the Ravens are off, which this season is not until December.

However, it seems relevant to inform that Tucker is the No. 29 kicker (out of 32) in ESPN fantasy scoring, averaging a mere 5.8 fantasy points per game. This isn't his fault, of course, nor is it predictive of what will happen in Week 6 or 12 or beyond, but production is production, and his is a problem few expected. Impatient fantasy managers — there is no other kind — overthink and analyze everything, quickly learning new names such as Emari Demercado and Josh Downs, along with every underwhelming Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver and which defense to stream this week… but they don't think about kickers.
