Fans ‘howling’ at Doja Cat’s Met Gala look as she comes dressed as Karl Lagerfeld’s cat and meows during interviews

The Met Gala is one of the biggest fashion events of the year, known for delivering some viral looks, including Zendaya's iconic Cinderella dress and Blake Lively's colour changing gown. And this year is no exception as rapper Doja Cat’s has left fans stunned after her “genius” transformation.

This year’s theme of the much anticipated ball, which was held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York on Monday (May 1) night, was Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty, to honour the long-time Chanel artistic director following his death in 2019.

The ‘Kiss Me More’ singer paid tribute to the fashion icon in an unusual way by dressing up as Lagerfeld’s cat, Choupette.

Doja Cat has had some memorable red carpet moments and her looks are known to leave people talking, such as the star’s Paris Fashion Week look, where she was covered head to toe in over 30,000 hand-applied Swarovski Crystals.

Naturally, for her first Met Gala appearance, the ‘Say So’ singer lived up to her red carpet reputation as she looked almost unrecognisable with feline facial prosthetics, channelling Choupette.

The Grammy-winning rapper wore a silvery hooded Oscar de la Renta gown, topped off with cat ears and sharp cat-like talons.

“I feel nice, I feel relaxed here. Maybe it’s the beige. I feel very calm, it’s very nice,” she told Vogue, signing off her interview with a soft “miaow”.

While most stars wore gowns and suits that reflected Lagerfeld's vintage design, his vintage designs or outfits that reflected his black and white aesthetic, fans of Doja were left “howling” as she stood out from the pearls and starched collars.
