FAI Cup wrap: Afolabi off the mark for Bohs, Shels ease past Bonagee

Jonathan Afolabi scored his first goal for Bohemians to help the SSE Airtricity League Premier Division club sidestep a potential upset against Leinster Senior League side Lucan United in the FAI Cup second roundon Friday night.

Liam Burt broke the deadlock at Dalymount Park in the 32nd minute and Afolabi - who joined Bohs from Celtic earlier this month - made it 2-0 just two minutes later when he headed home Tyreke Wilson's cross from the left.

Lucan were reduced to ten men in the second half when Anthony McKay was dismissed for a reckless challenge on Jamie Mullins, and the Gypsies closed it out to progress to the third round.

Damien Duff's Shelbourne also avoided a shock loss as they eased past Donegal outfit Bonagee United 4-0 in Letterkenny.

The underdogs stubbornly held out until first-half injury-time when Josh Giurgi snuck in at the back post to fire Shels ahead.

Dan Carr doubled the lead with a header in the 53rd minute, with Jack Moylan (60) and then Carr again (72) making things comfortable.
