Fabrizio Romano: Man Utd "want to discuss" new contract with £200k-p/w star

Manchester United ‘want to discuss’ fresh contract terms with Marcus Rashford if he stays at Old Trafford beyond the closure of the summer transfer window, according to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano.

Erik ten Hag could look to make widespread changes to the Red Devils’ squad after being appointed as their new boss, but it appears Rashford is not among those he is actively looking to move on.

Rashford’s £200,000-per-week deal is set to expire next summer, although Manchester United have the option of extending the agreement by a further 12 months.

Despite struggling for game-time under Ralf Rangnick, who was in interim charge before ten Hag’s arrival in the red half of Manchester, it is understood that he is in a more favourable position than fellow attacker Anthony Martial when it comes to having a future at Old Trafford.

Ahead of having to report back to Carrington for pre-season, Rashford has been putting himself through his paces by undergoing a personal training regime while on holiday in the United States as he bids to impress ten Hag.

The 24-year-old has been convinced that he wants to remain with his boyhood club after discussing the Dutchman’s methods with Donny van de Beek and Daley Blind.

It comes just a matter of months after Rashford revealed he was considering his future having grown frustrated at a lack of opportunities.

Romano believes Manchester United will want to head to the negotiating table and hand Rashford an extended deal if he is not sold during the remainder of the summer window.

The transfer guru feels fresh terms could be on the table in the not-too-distant future as the Red Devils look to protect one of their assets.
