Fabio Jakobsen bursts to impressive Paris-Nice win

Quick Step-Alpha Vinyl rider Fabio Jakobsen sprinted to another impressive victory in stage two of Paris-Nice on Monday.

It's 19 months since Jakobsen suffered a career-threatening crash. He admitted at the time he was grateful to still be alive after being placed in a medically induced coma following a major collision during the Tour of Poland in August 2020.

He was airlifted to hospital and required facial surgery after a high-speed collision with fellow Dutchman Dylan Groenewegen in the final sprint of stage one.

He has however returned in hugely impressive style.

This win on the 159.2km trek from Auffargis to Orléans was his win of the season.

Jakobsen led home Jumbo-Visma pair Wout van Aert and Christophe Laporte, the overnight race leader who retained the yellow jersey.

Ireland's Sam Bennett finished in 33rd position, with compatriot and Bora-hansgrohe team-mate Ryan Mullen 39th. Bennett is 51st in the general classification, while Mullen is 56th.
