F1: Williams outline requirements for Alex Albon's 2023 team-mate

Williams‘ Dave Robson has given an outline of what the team is looking for in terms of a new driver to go alongside Alex Albon.

The Grove-based team are on the lookout for a new driver for 2023 after it was confirmed that Nicholas Latifi would be leaving at the end of the year.

Indeed, several names have been linked with the seat but, as yet, there has been no confirmation as to who will join Albon in the garage for 2023 at least.

Among the names getting linked was Nyck de Vries but he, of course, is now going to be driving for AlphaTauri after agreeing to replace the Alpine-bound Pierre Gasly for next year.

Certainly, the driver line-up for 2023 has taken a couple of steps closer to being completed in recent days but there are still two spots available at both Haas and Williams.

Logan Sargeant could be one driver that comes in, with him already part of the Williams driver programme, whilst Mick Schumacher has been another suggested option, though he could yet pen a new deal with Haas and stay there for 2023.

Speaking about the attributes of a new driver, then, Robson has said they want someone that is going to be pushing Albon:

"We need someone who will push Alex along and will be fighting with him every race.

“Ideally someone who is after similar traits from the car. We’ll see where we go. But all we want to do is have two competitive cars pushing each other into Q2, Q3 and beyond.”

Albon has certainly been the stronger driver this year for Williams and getting someone in that can meet his level should only help the team.
