F1 Gold | Revisiting Singapore 2019, the scenes of Sebastian Vettel's last F1 win

2019 wasn't a very good year for Sebastian Vettel. The German driver has been on an ongoing decline for several years, and Charles Leclerc's as new Ferrari teammate that year didn't help matters, either.

But Ferrari's 2019 car, the SF90, was one of the fastest cars of the year, but the team struggled to maximise the potential they had at their disposal. Still, they registered three consecutive wins that year: two for Leclerc and one for Vettel.

And for Vettel, it would be his last in Formula 1.

Under the Singaporean night sky

Though 2020 was Vettel's last in Ferrari colours, the 2019 Singapore Grand Prix would be the last time he'd stand on the top step of an F1 podium. Yet, though he won, he never looked like the likely victor on the night.

Leclerc had a brilliant getaway when the race got underway, led from Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes-AMG) and Vettel - who started in second and third, respectively. Though Leclerc's lead would never grow exponentially, he still maintained a comfortable gap between him and Hamilton.

But Vettel stuck behind Hamilton, struggled to get by his longtime rival, and the team decided to bring him in for a fresh set of tyres on Lap 20.

Then, on Lap 21, Ferrari called in Leclerc, and the race leader rejoined the race behind a fast-charging Vettel.

"What the hell," Leclerc exclaimed over the radio.
