Mohamed Elneny has admitted he is extremely excited for Arsenal's future after signing a new short-term contract with the club.

The Egyptian international enjoyed an impressive end to the 2021/22 campaign, starting the last seven Premier League matches following Thomas Partey's thigh injury back in April. Elneny looked set to depart the north London club on a free transfer this summer but he has now penned a new one-year extension, with a further option to extend his stay.

Now, he has spoken about his feelings after signing his deal, speaking about what it is like being part of the Arsenal 'family'. "I love this club and I feel like part of this family," he told Arsenal Media.

"I want to continue at this amazing club and amazing family and I’m very happy and very excited for the future." Manager Mikel Arteta also made it no secret of his admiration for the 30-year-old.

The Spaniard added: "Mo is a really important part of the team. He brings endless energy, enthusiasm and commitment to the team and is loved by everyone. He's an important player for us on and off the pitch, a real role model to our younger players and I'm delighted he's staying."

Gunners technical director Edu then weighed in, praising Elneny's mentality: "Mo has an incredible mentality which is so important for our squad. He helps the team as much as he can every day.
