Excited by Kaduna camp, players, coaches predict bright future for volleyball

Nigeria Volleyball Federation (NVBF) has opened camp for 30 players at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium, Kaduna, in preparation for competitions slated for the remaining part of the year.

Speaking during a training session, on Wednesday, NVBF’s Technical Director, Boskovic Alexander, said the camp had been ongoing for some days and would continue for a while, adding that with the players’ drills and training, the country is on its way to becoming a great volleyball nation.

“The players were mostly selected from the recently concluded Premier League and they are in high spirits with a burning desire to learn more,” he said.

He added that his utmost desire is to develop the players to make the best of their talents, adding: “Before coming here, I watched the U-19 African Cup in September, and we also had the Premier League, from where we selected these players. We don’t talk about new ideas, in developing these players; we talk about what is necessary for them.

“But we have to improve our grassroots, discover and educate future players,” the NVBF technical director said.

Also speaking on the camping, senior women national team captain, Mercy Promise, said the training has been great, intensive and practical, while captain of the men’s team, Samuel Ogwuche, described the exercise as a rare privilege.

“This is a new build-up, which is a mixture of senior and junior, and in the next five years, we will be great in Africa and the world,” he said.

Ogwuche also said the camp shows that the Federation is preparing ahead, adding that there is a bright future for volleyball in the country.
