Ex-F1 driver Montoya backs Charles Leclerc for victory around Spa-Francorchamps

Former Formula 1 driver Juan Pablo Montoya thinks Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc will win this weekend's Belgian Grand Prix on the fast Spa-Francorchamps track.

In an interview with VegasInsider, Montoya was asked who he thought would win at Spa, the Columbian stated: "My money would be on Charles.

"I am normally a big Max (Verstappen) guy to win all these races, but I think that track might be a Ferrari track."

Superior pace

Montoya explained that he picked Leclerc for the victory because the Spa track was very fast, and Ferrari seemed to have a superior pace compared to their rivals.

"It is a strong track, it is a fast track, you know, they have a lot of pace," Montoya said. "I think Red Bull has a lot of pace too. It is a good track for a guy like Checo (Red Bull's Sergio Perez). I think he performed really, really well."

The 46-year-old Montoya went on to explain the difference between the Hungary track, where in the race before the summer break, Red Bull driver Verstappen was victorious starting from 10th position, and this upcoming weekend's Spa-Francorchamps circuit.

"There are tracks like, I think, Budapest. Budapest is very difficult, very technical, and is very hard to get a lap time out of you," Montoya explained.

"Whereas with Spa, it just flows a lot easier. The lap time comes a lot easier. So, I think Checo is going to be right there. I think Max is going to be right there. But if I would put a bet today, my bet today would probably be on Charles with the Ferrari."
