Ex-Drogs defender James Brown handed fresh deal by Blackburn

Former Drogheda United defender James Brown has earned a fresh two-year deal with Blackburn Rovers after impressing since arriving at the Championship club in January.

The high-energy full-back took part in a three-day trial at Ewood Park before being offered an initial six-month deal.

He went into Blackburn's Under-23s squad but has been training with Tony Mowbray's seniors, impressing enough to make the bench for the trips to Hull City and West Bromwich Albion.

Although he's yet to make his first-team debut, Mowbray has been very pleased with the 23-year-old's impact and this extension is a major sign in the club's faith in Brown's capabilities.

"That's what I came here for when I first signed," the Dubliner said. "The gaffer has been really honest with me and said that I'm here to try and earn a new contract, to see if I can fit in well. I think I've done that.

"Every day is a chance to get better. You can't come in and half do it some days... that's what I said when I came here, that I was going to make every day count. I still and and I still will. I've loved every minute of it."

Brown joined the Drogs in November 2018 and made 59 appearances for the Louth club. His performances for United had earned him a spot on the 2021 PFAI Premier Division Team of the Year.

He'll hope to play some part in the league run-in for Blackburn, who are currently fourth and very much in the frame to make the play-offs.
