Jurgen Klopp has described five substitutions being available to Premier League managers as 'essential' as he launched his latest attempt to win over the support of other top-flight managers.

The welfare of players is a subject the Liverpool boss has spoken passionately about on a number of occasions, particularly during the closing stages of 2021 as the Omicron coronavirus variant caused chaos for coaches in the top-flight regarding squad availability.

Clubs are currently permitted to take three changes during a Premier League match, though were allowed five during the 2019/20 season at the time of Project Restart as clubs were given additional help in response to the coronavirus pandemic. Premier League clubs voted against keeping the arrangement in place ahead of last season despite a number of top European leagues utilising it.

It is understood Premier League sides will hold another vote on whether this concept should be made
