Everton struck gold on 20 y/o "bright light" whose value has soared by 515% in 2 years - opinion

Everton have had a poor season so far, with the side struggling to climb the Premier League table into a safe position. As a result, they are currently just four points off the relegation zone, however despite the bad form, they have had fresh talent blossom in the team this season.

Demarai Gray joined the side in the summer for a bargain transfer free of £1.7m, and has since become an important player for the Toffees this season, tallying up the second-highest goals scored (6) in the side. Having said that not all of the talent in the team has come from new signings, with one player living out his dream to play for his boyhood club.

Anthony Gordon has become a stand out performer and undroppable asset to the Everton team, with the local lad rising through the ranks of the academy, to become a key player in the first XI.

The 20-year-old made his Premier League debut as a substitute back in January 2020 when he was just 18, then made his debut in the starting XI in the Merseyside derby in June 2020 and by September of the same year, Gordon signed a new five-year contract to secure his future at Everton long term.

Since then the attacker who was hailed a “bright light” by former Scotland manager, Alex McLeish, has come on leaps and bounds, becoming one of the most promising young talents in the Premier League this season.

Gordon uses his position as a winger to make important runs, stretch the opposition’s defence and create chances, including six key passes and three assists for his team, as well as finding himself in the position to have goal-scoring opportunities, with the youngster bagging three goals of his own this season.
