Everton still eager to snap up 25-year-old Championship man

Despite the club being shunned in their original bid for Maxwel Cornet, Everton are still trying to sort out a deal for the player according to Sky Sports’ Transfer Centre (19:07; 13:28).

The 25-year-old impressed in the Premier League last season and with Burnley having been relegated to the Championship, it now opens the door for another top flight club to step in and poach him away from the Clarets.

There have been plenty of clubs linked with a deal for the winger but it is Everton who have been most heavily rumoured to have an interest in his services. The Toffees have already launched – and had rejected – one bid for the player this summer but it doesn’t appear to have put them off.

Instead, it looks like the Premier League side will be continuing to try and sign Cornet if they can. It appears as though Frank Lampard is set to weigh up a suitable follow-up bid from the Toffees and could then launch another effort to try and bring the 25-year-old to Goodison Park.

With nine goals and one assist in 26 top flight outings last time around, he has already showcased that he is capable of doing the business in the Premier League. That’s despite Burnley being locked in a relegation battle at the time – and with Everton looking to push on next year, they feel Cornet could help them do so.

It won’t be easy to prise the player away from Turf Moor considering how much he could offer to Burnley in the Championship but he’ll likely want to remain in the top flight if he can and the Clarets may be resigned to selling the winger this window.
