Everton: 'No doubt' sacrifices needed after major financial update

Everton will have to consider selling some of their biggest players this summer, says journalist Dean Jones.

The Merseyside club’s finances are far from healthy right now, leaving manager Frank Lampard in a difficult position.

The Daily Mail reported earlier this month that Everton were preparing to negotiate with the Premier League over their financial accounts to prevent a possible points deduction.

As per the same report, the Toffees have recorded combined losses of over £260m between 2017 and 2020, while the club have also just announced that they made a loss of £103m in the 2020/21 financial year.

They have also had trouble with FFP, something former manager Rafael Benitez spoke about at the start of the season, and have since had to cut ties with oligarch Alisher Usmanov and the club’s Russian sponsors following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

Given all of that, some exits at Goodison Park before the start of the 2022/23 campaign look inevitable.

In terms of profile, Jones thinks some big names could be allowed to depart in what would be a huge blow for Lampard.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, the transfer insider said: “There’s no doubt about it that they’re going to have to be considering some sales for some of their biggest name players.”

The first two names who come to mind are Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Richarlison, who both already seem to be attracting interest.

According to The Telegraph, Everton’s rivals are eyeing the attacking duo amid all of the uncertainty at the club right now.

Calvert-Lewin’s agent, however, has recently dismissed reports suggesting that the 25-year-old has already agreed personal terms with another outfit.
