Everton: 'Massive pressure' on Lampard after another 'alarming' setback

The way that Everton have lost some of their matches recently has been concerning, according to journalist Pete O’Rourke.

Frank Lampard’s side have only won two league games since the turn of the year, and they suffered another setback on Wednesday as they were beaten 3-2 by Burnley at Turf Moor.

Having been at the club for a little over two months, Lampard has managed to pick up a couple of good results. He has seen his side beat Leeds and Newcastle at home, while they also were a little unfortunate to lose 1-0 to Manchester City in February.

However, their form on the road has been very worrying. Everton have lost all five of their away league matches with Lampard at the helm, conceding 15 goals in the process. This has somewhat undone their positive performances at Goodison Park.

Heading into the final weeks of the season, Everton are just a single point above the drop zone, with a daunting fixture list awaiting them. They still have to play Manchester United, Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal before the season concludes.

O’Rourke has admitted that there were initially some promising signs when Lampard came in, but feels things are now looking gloomy, and has pointed out that the way Everton are losing matches is becoming a major issue.

Reflecting on Lampard’s tenure to date, O’Rourke told GIVEMESPORT: “There was a bit of an improvement, but the away form has still been very disappointing. Some of the manner of the defeats has been quite alarming as well.

“Losing to Burnley has massively hiked up the pressure on Lampard and his coaching team because they’ve got a tough run of fixtures.”

On paper, Everton certainly have the talent to stay in the top-flight.
