Everton will be ‘looking at a crisis’ if they lose their crucial Premier League clash with Burnley this evening, according to journalist Dean Jones.

The Toffees travel to Turf Moor to take on a side sitting just two places and four points below them in the top-flight standings in what could be a season-defining fixture for both sides.

It’s been a torrid campaign for Everton. The controversial appointment of Rafa Benitez over the summer soon backfired following a promising start, and the arrival of Frank Lampard as his successor has failed to have the desired effect.

After losing just one of their opening seven league games under Benitez, the Merseyside outfit then went on a run of one victory in 13 encounters.

The Spanish tactician was relieved of his duties as a result after just six and a half months at the helm, and it was hoped that Lampard’s installation in the Goodison Park hot seat would spark a change in fortunes.

However, the 43-year-old has overseen just two victories in his eight league games at the helm, leaving Everton hovering precariously in 17th position, just three points above the relegation zone.

And Lampard may not be too confident of picking up a positive result when he leads his team out against Sean Dyche’s charges.

Everton have the worst away form in the division after winning only one of their 14 league fixtures on the road this season, earning a further three draws for their efforts.

In their remaining games of 2021/22, the Blues still have to face the likes of Liverpool, Manchester United, Arsenal and Chelsea, highlighting the very tough task at hand.
