Evening update: Forest in talks to sign exciting 21-cap 'machine' for Cooper

Nottingham Forest are reportedly ‘in talks’ with exciting Liverpool right-back Neco Williams regarding a £15million summer move to the City Ground.

The Welshman has found it hard to enjoy playing time at Liverpool, with the world-class Trent Alexander-Arnold very much the first-choice right-back there.

Williams spent the second half of last season on loan at Fulham in the Championship, impressing at Craven Cottage and chipping in with two goals and assists apiece.

It looks increasingly likely that the 21-year-old will leave Liverpool this summer, in order to be a regular elsewhere, especially after their capture of Aberdeen youngster Calvin Ramsay.

According to The Telegraph’s Thursday evening update, Forest are ‘in talks’ with Williams over a £15million move, with the 21-time capped Wales international seen as a strong replacement for Djed Spence, who could join Tottenham.

The youngster’s current Liverpool deal doesn’t expire until the summer of 2025, so getting him on the cheap this year is out of the question.

Williams has the potential to be a great signing for Forest ahead of their return to the Premier League, bringing Spence-esque levels of attacking quality down the right flank.

He has been described as a ‘machine’ by Jurgen Klopp, which is high praise from a huge modern figure in the game who is well known for his use of attacking full-bacls.

Steve Cooper will surely believes he is perfectly suited to his style of play, showing fearlessness going forward but also dogged defensive ability, having averaged 2.6 tackles per game for Fulham last season.
