Evans caps Berlin double-header with victory after Muller wins Saturday thriller

BERLIN: Mitch Evans claimed victory in Sunday’s Berlin E-Prix, the eighth round of the Formula E season, as the Jaguar driver delivered a perfectly timed late charge to win the second race of the double-header at Tempelhof Airport Street Circuit.

Evans spent much of the race managing energy outside the leading group before launching a decisive attack in the closing stages, moving to the front and controlling the final laps to secure a narrow win over Oliver Rowland, who finished second for Nissan after a strong and sustained challenge.

Pascal Wehrlein gave the home crowd something to cheer, taking third for Porsche after a composed drive that helped stabilise his weekend following Saturday’s disappointment.

As in Race 1 on Saturday, strategy and energy management once again proved decisive on the abrasive Berlin surface, with the field tightly bunched heading into the final phase before late moves reshaped the podium fight.

In the first race of the weekend, Nico Muller had taken his maiden Formula E victory in dramatic fashion, delivering a composed and efficient drive to win round seven and secure a home triumph for Porsche at Tempelhof.

Starting from sixth on the grid, Muller steadily worked his way through the order before a well-executed Pit Boost phase vaulted him into contention.

With strong energy management in the closing stages, he seized the lead and held firm to the chequered flag.

Nick Cassidy finished second after a late push, while Oliver Rowland completed the podium following another consistent performance in the lead group.

However, home favourite Wehrlein suffered a puncture that ended his challenge early, leaving Porsche to contemplate split emotions across the weekend.
