European 'hidden gem' destination boasts 'Little Venice' and 'scenery from a fairy-tale'

City breaks are a favourite for many, but it might be time to start exploring less popular destinations.

This advice comes from a savvy traveller who has highlighted the incredible locations people can discover when they venture away from well-known cities. The content creator, known as @atxjulsey on TikTok, suggested that people should explore a part of eastern France instead of visiting Paris.

In her brief video, she detailed how the Alsace region, with its fewer crowds, is ideal for those wishing to explore at a "slower pace". She also mentioned the existence of a charming and stylish "Little Venice" in the area. Sharing footage of the scenic location, she advised: "Skip Paris, and go to the Alsace region of France instead.

"Located in the north-eastern part of France, you will find dozens of fairy-tale-like villages, like Colmar, which is actually known as 'Little Venice' because of a river that runs through it that you can take boat rides on. So picturesque and beautiful."

She informed prospective travellers about the possibility of booking wine tours in other towns, and exploring several villages in a single day. Interestingly, she revealed the fountain in the commune of Riquewihr inspired the fountain that Belle sits on at the beginning of Beauty and the Beast.

Describing the area as "cute", she recommended it as a must-visit destination due to its tranquillity, beauty and magical atmosphere. Her video has since garnered significant online attention, receiving more than 4,000 likes.

A few people were quick to share their thoughts, with one saying: "Beauty and the Beast's village as a whole was based on Alsace, so makes sense that it's super fairy-tale-like." A second followed this, exclaiming: "It's just gorgeous
