Euro 2022: Germany’s Klara Bühl forced to relive terrible miss on big screen
Germany’s Klara Bühl was forced to relive missing a sitter in the Euro 2022 quarter-finals, with the moment broadcast on the big screen at the Brentford Community Stadium.
The 21-year-old, who otherwise impressed for Germany, had an incredible opportunity to give her country a 2-0 lead towards the end of their match against Austria.
Star striker Alexandra Popp burst through on goal, unselfishly squaring the ball to an unmarked Bühl, who was eight yards away from an empty net.
Remarkably, and to her own amazement, Bühl side-footed the ball wide.
It was to be the Bayern Munich star’s last kick of the game. She was taken off for Jule Brand, but her misery didn’t end on the bench.
With the big screen at the Brentford Community Stadium showing replays of the match, Bühl was forced to watch her miss on repeat.
As she buried her head in her hands, her teammates on the bench around her were in hysterics.
