Euro 2022: Germany’s Alexandra Popp wears fake moustache after male player comparisons

Germany star Alexandra Popp sported an amusing disguise in her press conference ahead of the Euro 2022 final this weekend.

Popp has been in remarkable form at this year’s tournament and is leading the Golden Boot race, along with England’s Beth Mead on six goals.

Two of these goals came in the semi-final against France, as Germany emerged as 2-1 victors.

Afterwards, social media posts compared Popp’s impressive strength and playing style to male players, while one media outlet even shared a post that suggested Popp could play up front for the men’s side.

“Called up by Hansi Flick for Qatar 2022: Alexander Bopp,” it read.

In response to these comparisons, Popp turned up to Germany’s media day wearing a fake moustache and a baseball cap backwards.

Understandably, the journalists in attendance found it hilarious, as did Popp, who struggled to contain her own amusement.

A number of fans were quick to see the funny side as well.

One said: “Love her sense of humour.”

Meanwhile, another wrote: “What’s incredible about this is how much she’s clearly enjoying herself, two days before the Euro 2022 final.”

A third simply put: “Legendary behaviour.”

Popp’s team, Wolfsburg, also replied to the original video and commented: “We are living in the @alexpopp11 timeline.”

Even England fans couldn’t help but be amused.

One Lionesses supporter wrote: “Now rooting for Popp to score and win the Golden Boot, but it’s still coming home.”

Popp is a two-time German Footballer of the Year and has captained the national team since 2019.

In 2016, she helped Germany win Olympic gold in Rio de Janeiro and also starred at the 2019 Women’s World Cup.

However, despite having more than 100
