Errol Spence Jr vs Yordenis Ugas: Terence Crawford gives his prediction

Terence Crawford reckons Errol Spence Jr won’t have it all his own way against Yordenis Ugas.

But the American has backed his fellow countryman to beat the Cuban when the two face off for three of the four major belts in Las Vegas.

Ugas holds the WBA title while Spence has the IBF and WBC straps in his possession.

Spence, 32, has not fought since he outpointed Danny Garcia in Arlington near his hometown of Dallas, Texas, in December 2020.

Ugas, meanwhile, dominated Manny Pacquiao over twelve rounds to successfully defend the world championship for the first time.

Spence is the odds-on favourite to win the fight outright, and most boxing fans are expecting him to comfortably deal with Ugas.

But Crawford, who has been calling for a fight against Spence for many years, insists that it isn’t a foregone conclusion despite the odds.

The former three-weight world champion told ESPN: “I give Spence a little edge, but that’s not taking any credit away from Ugas, I think he’s a tremendous talent, I think he got what it takes to derail Spence.

“But who knows how that fight’s gonna go. It’s going to be a great fight. Hopefully I can get the winner.

“If not, I want to move up and fight the winner of [Brian] Castano and [Jermell] Charlo.”

Crawford’s rival Spence recently expressed his wishes that he still hopes that the fight can get made.

Nicknamed ‘Bud’, Crawford is currently a free agent after leaving Top Rank amid a legal dispute with Bob Arum, and Spence explained on the DAZN Boxing Show that has made negotiations ‘a lot easier’.

He said: “It wasn’t my first thought.
