Erling Haaland takes Man City record off Sergio Aguero with Bournemouth goal

Erling Haaland has claimed yet another record in his remarkable debut campaign at Manchester City, this time taking one from Sergio Aguero.

City moved to sign Haaland from Borussia Dortmund in the summer to finally fill the void left by Aguero and he has had no trouble in continuing his ridiculous goal rate in Manchester. The Norwegian sensation now has a stunning 33 goals in 33 games this season.

27 of them have been in the Premier League with the latest coming in the 4-1 victory over Bournemouth on Saturday after turning in Phil Foden's knockdown. The strike means Haaland has now scored more in a single Premier League season for City than anyone else since the league began in 1992.

Blues icon Aguero was the previous holder of the record after he bagged 26 times in the 2014-15 season as part of his record 260 goals for the club in all competitions. There will no doubt be plenty more records to fall, like the most goals in a single Premier League campaign.

There is a debate over who actually has the best claim to the record. The most goals were jointly scored by Alan Shearer and Andy Cole, but their 34-goal hauls came when the league consisted of 22 teams and thus had 42 games in a campaign. The record for the now 38-game season is held by Mohamed Salah following his 32 strikes in 2017-18. Haaland has 13 matches remaining to score eight times and end the debate completely.

Then he could go one step further and beat the long-standing record for most goals scored by a City player in one First Division campaign. That is currently held by Tommy Johnson with 38 and has stood for close to a century since 1929. Everton legend Dixie
