Erling Haaland names Man City alternative who could have been named Premier League's best

Erling Haaland picked up the Premier League Player of the Season award this week, but the Manchester City striker feels one of his Blues team-mates would have been a worthy winner too.

Haaland's incredible goal tally for the season - 36 in 35 league outings with eight assists - meant it was no surprise to see him claim the award. The Norwegian has given City a whole new level of firepower at the top end of the pitch and Pep Guardiola's side are now targeting the treble - with the Premier League trophy in the bag.

As well as the POTS award, Haaland also took home the Young Player of the Season accolade. But the 22-year-old named Rodri as one of many City players who could have won instead of him - as well as Arsenal midfielder and Haaland's international team mate Martin Odegaard - who scored 15 goals and assisted eight from midfield.

"If I had to pick another player to have won Player of the Year, I would say my Norwegian friend, Odegaard has had a really good season," Haaland told William Hill. "There are also other teammates that could have easily won it because there’s a lot of players in the Manchester City team that have been outstanding this season.

"If you watch all of our games, you will see that Rodri has just been so solid throughout the whole season. I think sometimes he is a bit hidden because he is in midfield and he’s the one pulling everything together. I don’t want to say too many names, but maybe it could have been one of them.”
